Creative Misfortune Power Rankings are based on a complicated formula that takes into account, among other things, a team's projected ability to score an Offensive Fumble Recovery TD. All power rankings guaranteed to be less accurate than real NFL team abilities on any given Sunday and are subject to change on a weekly basis. If your team’s ranking remains unchanged for 4 hours or more, please consult with your doctor, as serious side effects may occur.
When it comes to Creative Misfortune Power Rankings, winning isn't the only thing, but it is the most important component of the rating. I don't believe teams can be powerful if they consistently lose, even to other great teams.
ROCKY WEEK!
With only four weeks remaining in the NFL season, every team still has something to fight for. Whether it be for the best regular season record, a spot in the playoffs or just to keep their jobs next season, let’s go with some Rocky paraphrases to get your team inspired for this week’s contests. Can you guess which of the six movies your team's paraphrased quote is from?
The Forked Few~
Abandon hope and fortune all ye who rank here
# 32 - Carolina Panthers (previous: 32)
Announcer: Now entering the field, a team that calls themselves 'The Dirty Birds', the NFC's best... THE ATLANTA FALCONS!
Jimmy Clausen: Wow, they're awful big. Hey, Coach Fox, how much do you think they eat?
Coach Fox: About 222 pounds.
Announcer: And now, starting at quarterback for your Carolina Panthers, weighing in at 222 pounds...
# 31 - Arizona Cardinals (previous: 29)
Reporter: Why do you wanna keep playing?
Derek Anderson: Because I can't sing or dance.
# 30 - Buffalo Bills (previous: 27)
Reporter: Harvard quarterback, Ryan Fitzpatrick. Any advice to kids out there?
Ryan Fitzpatrick: Stay in school and use your brain. Be a doctor, be a lawyer, carry a leather briefcase. Forget about sports as a profession. Sports make ya grunt and smell. Be a thinker, not a stinker.
# 29 - Cincinnati Bengals (previous: 31)
Chad Ochocinco vs Troy Polamalu. Sounds like a damn monster movie!
# 28 - Detroit Lions (previous: 28)
Well, ya see, Commissioner, we understand you're lookin' for sparrin' partners for the Green Bay Packers and we just want to let you know that we are very available.
The Creatively Challenged~
Folly remains ever their mistress
# 27 - Denver Broncos (previous: 30)
Josh McDaniels: Hey, yo, Chris, whose lock is this? Whose stuff is this in my locker?
Denver Equipment Manager, Chris Valenti: It's Studesville's stuff. It ain't your locker no more.
Josh McDaniels: What are you talkin' about 'it ain't my locker no more'? It's been my locker for nearly two years. Where's my gear?
Chris Valenti: Bowlen told me to bag it. Hang it.
Josh McDaniels: You put my stuff on skid row? I been in that locker two years; you put my stuff in a bag on skid row?
Chris Valenti: Bowlen tells me what to do. I gotta do it, right, Coach?
Josh McDaniels: Where is he?
Chris Valenti: Working with Studesville. He's in a bad mood.
Josh McDaniels: So am I.
# 26 - Washington Redskins (previous: 24)
Coach Shanahan: You know what you are?
Albert Haynesworth: No, what?
Coach Shanahan: A tomato.
Albert Haynesworth: A tomato?
Coach Shanahan: Yeah, and I'm running a football team here, not a goddamn soup kitchen!
# 25 - San Francisco 49ers (previous: 26)
Announcer #1: Do you have any predictions on this game? How do you see this contest going?
Announcer #2: Well, I feel that strength would have to go to the Seahawks, while experience and the WORLD'S HARDEST HEAD would HAVE to go to Mike Singletary!
# 24 - Minnesota Vikings (previous: 23)
Brett Favre, explaining why he came back for the miserable 2010 campaign: We always have to be in the middle of the action 'cause we're the warriors. And without some challenge, without some damn war to fight then the warriors might as well be dead. Now I'm asking you - as my fans - stand by my side this one last time. You know, it's too bad we gotta get old, huh?
Disillusioned Vikings Fan: Ah, just keep throwing interceptions, Brett...
# 23 - Houston Texans (previous: 17)
[Not pleased he has to face Baltimore with his job on the line and confused by Arian Foster's eagerness to face Ray Lewis and the Ravens D, Coach Kubiak strikes up a conversation with his star running back]
Coach Kubiak: What's the matter with you? Why do you wanna play these guys? Does anything normal go through your head?
Arian Foster: Nothing that I remember.
Coach Kubiak: They've got linebackers as big as dinosaurs. You ever fought a dinosaur, kid?
Arian Foster: Not lately.
Coach Kubiak: They can inflict a variety of damage!
# 22 - Dallas Cowboys (previous: 22)
Dallas Cowboys: We've been your favorite team for over thirty years, and all season you've been sticking it to us, and we wanna know how come!
Creative Misfortune: You don't wanna know!
Dallas Cowboys: We wanna know how come!
Creative Misfortune: Ya wanna know?
Dallas Cowboys: WE WANNA KNOW!
Creative Misfortune: OK, I'm gonna tell ya! You had the talent to become Super Bowl champions, but instead of that, you quit on your fans and became some cheap, second rate franchise!
Dallas Cowboys: It's a living.
Creative Misfortune: IT'S A WASTE OF A FOOTBALL SEASON!
# 21 - Cleveland Browns (previous: 21)
Open Letter from the Browns to the City of Cleveland: We know sometimes we act stupid and we say stupid things, but you kept us around and other people would have said "drop those bums". You give us respect. You know it's kinda hard for us to say these kinda things, cuz this ain't our way, but if we could just unzip ourselves and step out and be someone else, we'd wanna be you. You're all heart, Cleveland.
The Remarkably Average ~
Dancing the fine line between misfortune and glory
# 20 - Tennessee Titans (previous: 20)
Coach Fisher: Now, when we started this season, we had that eye of the tiger; the edge! And now we gotta get it back. And the way to get it back is to go back to the beginning. You know what I mean?
# 19 - Seattle Seahawks (previous: 25)
[Pete Carroll goes through some self-motivation techniques as he prepares to face the 49ers in San Francisco]
Coach Carroll: Stay away from USC! Make faces on the sideline! Move around the state, but don't go too far south!
# 18 - Miami Dolphins (previous: 15)
[Miami fans, deeply concerned, walk towards the Dolphins on the beach]
Suntanned Fans: Can we talk to you? We wanna ask you something important, and we want you to tell us the truth.
Miami Dolphins: What?
Suntanned Fans: Why'd you come here?
Miami Dolphins: I just can't win in South Florida no more.
Suntanned Fans: If it's over because you want it to be over, I'm glad.
Miami Dolphins: We do.
Suntanned Fans: It's just... you never quit anything since we've known you.
Miami Dolphins: We don't know what you want us to say. I mean, what happened? How did everything that was so good on the road get so bad at home?
Suntanned Fans: What's so bad? Tell us, what?
Miami Dolphins: We wrecked everything by not winning at home. I mean, why couldn't Parcells tell us where we really were right from the start? He didn't have to carry us and lie to us and make us think we were better than we really were when we weren't.
# 17 - Indianapolis Colts (previous: 14)
[Following the Colts’ devastating loss to the Dallas Cowboys in overtime and another couple of Pick-6's, an old mentor visits Peyton Manning]
Tony Dungy: Hey, uh, Peyton. It's three in the morning. I went up to your house there and they told me you was here. It's a 3:00am, Kid. You know that loss last week was pretty hard. Me, you know I'm sorry for ya. There's nothing I can do about it. Except, uh, I wanna tell you this once and then, uh, I ain't gonna say it again. But, Peyton, you got another shot, still a second shot at, uh, I don't know, the biggest championship in the world, and you're gonna be dropping back and throwing passes against some of the most dangerous football players in the world.
And just in case, you know, your brain ain't workin' so good. All this happens pretty soon and you ain't ready. You know your team’s no where near in shape. So I say, for God's sake, why don't you stand up and play these guys HARD? Like you done in seasons before. That was beautiful! But don't lay down like this! Like, uh, I don't know like some kind of mongrel or something. ‘Cause they're gonna kick your team to pieces!
That's right! These guys don't just wanna win you know. They want to bury ya. They want to humiliate ya. They want to prove to the whole world that you was nothin’ but some kind of freak the first seasons of your career. They said you were a lucky bum! Well, now I don't wanna get mad in a biblical place like this, but I think you're a hell of a lot more than that, Kid! A hell of a lot! But now, wait a minute. If you wanna blow this thing, if you wanna blow your shot at the playoffs, then darn it, I'm gonna blow it with ya. If you wanna stay here, I'll stay with ya. I’ll stay with ya. I'll stay and pray. What do I got to lose?
# 16 - San Diego Chargers (previous: 13)
[During practice leading up to this week's game, Philip Rivers is in another world, haunted by the first Kansas City game; The scout defense crosses up the offense with some practice blitzes]
Coach Turner: They're blitzing. They're blitzing. THEY'RE BLITZING! Damn, Philip, Come on! What's the matter with you?
Philip Rivers: Tomorrow. Let's pick up the blitz practice tomorrow.
Coach Turner: THERE IS NO TOMORROW! THERE IS NO TOMORROW!
# 15 - Oakland Raiders (previous: 19)
Coach Cable: Why do you have to wear that stinkin' leisure suit?
Al Davis: It brings us luck, you know?
Coach Cable: Brings us luck! I'll tell you what it brings, it brings flies!
Al Davis: Now here's what I want you to have the team do... I want them to chase this little chicken.
Coach Cable: Hey, sir, what do we got to chase a chicken for?
Al Davis: First, because I said so. And second, is because chicken-chasing is how we used to train back in the old days. If your players can catch this thing, they can catch greased lighting.
Coach Cable: Well, we'll do it if you say so, but it ain't very mature.
Al Davis: Yeah, well neither are you very mature!
# 14 - St. Louis Rams (previous: 18)
Reporter: Sam, your pay for your first season in the NFL is very substantial. What will you do with the money?
Sam Bradford: Well, the first thing I gotta do is I gotta pay the rent. And then I made this list on the way over here. I'd like to buy a couple hats, a motorcycle, a couple quarts of perfume for my girlfriend, she likes to smell good. And some muppet toys... you know, Ernie, Big Bird. And the frog, what's his name? Kermit? And I thought maybe a statue for the church, and a snow cone machine for Steven Jackson. You like snow cones, right?
Reporter: Sam, do you have something derogatory to say about your opponent this weekend, the defending champ, Drew Brees?
Sam Bradford: Derogatory? Yeah, he's great.
# 13 - Jacksonville Jaguars (previous: 16)
[MJD addresses the Jacksonville crowd that has started showing up back to games since the team has been winning]
Maurice Jones-Drew: During this season, I've seen a lot of changing, in the way you feel about us, and in the way we feel about you. Down here on the field there were two teams killing each other, but I guess that's better in front of a hundred thousand fans than twenty thousand. I guess what I'm trying to say, is that if we can change, and you can change, everybody can change!
The Fortunate Seven ~
The best of those not yet elite
# 12 - Tampa Bay Buccaneers (previous: 12)
Whatever losing team we play, we destroy!
# 11 - Kansas City Chiefs (previous: 11)
[Concerned about his upcoming rematch with Philip Rivers, Matt Cassel looks for some comforting advice]
Matt Cassel: Do you think I beat him the last time?
Coach Haley: We got the victory.
Matt Cassel: Coach, we won! But I didn't beat him!
# 10 - New York Giants (previous: 10)
[After a lot of blitzing by the Vikings early in their contest, Coughlin talks over the scoreboard situation with Eli Manning.]
Coach Coughlin: Alright, Eli, did the blitzing bother ya?
Eli Manning: Nothing bothered me, Coach. Nothing bothered me.
Coach Coughlin: Well then, you should've had them! Now don't let up on this team. This team is dangerous. This team is DANGEROUS!
Eli Manning: This team is dangerous? I'm dangerous! I'm dangerous!
# 9 - Philadelphia Eagles (previous: 9)
[Michael Vick and Andy Reid are watching film from Vick's first few seasons with Atlanta]
Coach Reid: Scrambling, run-first quarterbacks, they're the worst. They try to get the big play with their feet. Arm's no damn good. They ought to outlaw run-first quarterbacks!
Michael Vick: Why didn't you tell me that before?
Coach Reid: I didn't want to hurt your feelings.
# 8 - Baltimore Ravens (previous: 6)
Reporter: Ray, What's your prediction for the game against Houston?
Ray Lewis: My prediction?
Reporter: Yes, your prediction.
Ray Lewis: Pain!
# 7 - Green Bay Packers (previous: 8)
Packer Fans: Hey, Aaron.
Aaron Rodgers: Hey.
Packer Fans: Can we come up?
Aaron Rodgers: Yeah, sure.
Packer Fans: Some weather we're having here huh?
Aaron Rodgers: Yeah, it's pretty rough.
Packer Fans: But it's perfect for what you gotta do. It's good. Toughen you up.
Aaron Rodgers: I guess.
Packer Fans: I know you think you're gonna have to do everything by yourself, but you know we'll be with you.
Aaron Rodgers: Yeah.
Packer Fans: Favre was like a son to us. We raised him. And when he donned the Purple, a part of us died. But now you're the one. You're the one that's gonna keep our spirit alive. You're the one that's gonna make sure that he didn't leave for nothing. Now you're gonna have to go through hell. Worse than any nightmare you ever dreamed. But in the end, we know you'll be the one standing.
Aaron Rodgers: I'll try.
Packer Fans: You know what you have to do. Do it. Do it.
# 6 - Chicago Bears (previous: 7)
Jay Cutler: I can't do it.
Coach Smith: What?
Jay Cutler: I can't beat him.
Coach Smith: Brady?
Jay Cutler: Yeah. I been out there walkin' around, thinkin'. I mean, who am I kiddin'? I ain't even in the guy's league.
Coach Smith: What are you gonna do?
Jay Cutler: I don't know.
Coach Smith: You worked so hard.
Jay Cutler: Yeah, that don't matter. 'Cause I was nobody before.
Coach Smith: Don't say that.
Jay Cutler: Ah come on, Coach, it's true. I was nobody. But that don't matter either, you know? 'Cause I was thinkin', it really don't matter if I lose this game. It really don't matter if this guy lights us up, either. 'Cause all we wanna do is stay with them late into the fourth quarter. Few teams ever stay with the Patriots late into the game, and if we can stay with them, you see, and that clock reaches zero and we're still standin', we're gonna know for the first time this season, see, that we aren't just another pretender franchise from the NFC.

Matt Ryan: What's that?'
Falcon Fans: Win... Win!
# 1 - New England Patriots (previous: 3)

*Bye-week Advantage - To reflect the benefit gained by the top 2 seeds in each conference getting a bye week before they host Divisional Playoff games, the four teams who earn these bye weeks in the fantasy standings will play Week 13 to gain bonus points that will be added to their score in the Divisional Playoff round. For every 4 points they score in their Week 13 game, they will receive 1 bonus point in their Divisional round matchup.
For example, if Indianapolis scores 80 fantasy points in Week 13 against Dallas, they would receive 20 bonus points (80/4) for their Divisional matchup. Conversely, if they had an off week and scored 22 fantasy points, they would only receive 5 bonus points (22/4, any fractional points rounded down).
Since there are no bye weeks between the Divisional games and the Championship Games, bonus points will only be a factor in the Divisional playoff games.

Week 13 - Roundup of Creative Misfortune - Monday Game
Monday Night Result:
New York Jets at New England Patriots (Actual ~ New England, 45-3)
Creative Misfortune's Pick: New England, 21-17. Act II of the AFC's greatest Week 13 matchups. The Patriots even the score with the Jets and take control of the division.
Scottie V's Pick: New England, 27-17. The Jets are still not in the same class as a red-hot Patriot team.
Vegas Lines Pick: New England, 26-21. New England by 3.5, Over/Under 45.5.
Accuscore Pick: New England, 24-13. New England 66% win confidence
What If Sports Pick: New York, 24-14. New York won all 5 simulations.
Best Record Wins Pick: New England, 20-17. Both teams at 9-2, advantage home.
Home Team Wins Pick: New England, 20-17
The Patriots dominated their bitter, division rivals in all aspects of the game and easily took control of the AFC East with a crushing victory. Tom Brady moved the offense efficiently and the young defense baffled the Jets and didn't allow them any kind of rhythm, particularly in the first half. New England now becomes the team to beat in the AFC and is in complete control of their own destiny. Unless New England stumbles, the road to Super Bowl XLV will go through Foxboro. All systems, except What If Sports, pick up another victory with their backing of the Patriots.
Three systems - Creative Misfortune, Scottie V and blindly picking the team with the best record - recorded outstanding 75% accuracy with their week 13 picks. Creative Misfortune and Scottie V stumbled with their pick of the Bills to upset the Vikings, but otherwise had a solid weekend. Both the Vegas Picks and Accuscore systems came close to the 70% accuracy mark, while What If Sports struggled to get more than 50% correct. Blindly picking the home team once again failed miserably.

Week 13 - Roundup of Creative Misfortune - Sunday Games
For the third straight week, blindly picking the team with the best record leads the way with very solid showing, but both Creative Misfortune and Scottie V matched the blind system in correct picks. How did all other systems compare to this pick system's sudden surge in accuracy? See the results below...
Thursday Night Result:
Houston Texans at Philadelphia Eagles (Actual ~ Philadelphia, 34-24)
Creative Misfortune's Pick: Philadelphia, 37-28. Michael Vick and the Eagles will get their offensive groove back against one of the worst defenses in the league, but Houston will put up some points of their own to make the game interesting.
Scottie V's Pick: Philadelphia, 23-21. Fanatical Eagles' fans get the best of Texans on Thursday night.
Vegas Lines Pick: Philadelphia, 31-20. Philadelphia by 8.5, Over/Under 51.
Accuscore Pick: Philadelphia, 30-7. Philadelphia 81% win confidence
What If Sports Pick: Philadelphia, 24-20. Philadelphia won 3 of 5 simulations.
Best Record Wins Pick: Philadelphia, 20-17. Philadelphia better at 7-4.
Home Team Wins Pick: Philadelphia, 20-17
The Eagles resumed their soaring ways by knocking off the Texans on a short week to take a half-game lead in the division standings over the New York Giants. Michael Vick plays lights out again and leads Philadelphia to a fourth quarter comeback after Houston took the lead in the third quarter. For the Texans, Arian Foster continued to shine, but their playoff hopes took another solid hit on Thursday. With only four games remaining and a 5-7 record, Houston's best chance at making the playoffs is to capture the division title. With the four juggernaut teams in the AFC's North and East, they have no chance at a Wild Card spot. All systems come away with a victory as Houston is unable to upset the Eagles at home.
Sunday Game Results:
New Orleans Saints at Cincinnati Bengals (Actual ~ New Orleans, 34-30)
Creative Misfortune's Pick: New Orleans, 24-10. The Bengals have nothing to play for and the Saints are finally starting to get back to their championship form.
Scottie V's Pick: New Orleans, 30-17. The Saints D comes after Carson Palmer.
Vegas Lines Pick: New Orleans, 28-20. New Orleans by 7, Over/Under 46.
Accuscore Pick: New Orleans, 27-10. New Orleans 74% win confidence
What If Sports Pick: Cincinnati, 21-17. Cincinnati won 3 of 5 simulations.
Best Record Wins Pick: New Orleans, 20-17. New Orleans better at 8-3.
Home Team Wins Pick: Cincinnati, 20-17
The Saints take full advantage of a stupid Cincinnati encroachment penalty in the final seconds to steal back a game they had won until the Bengals rallied in the second half. Chris Ivory leads the Saints with two rushing touchdowns, but the defensive collapse in the second half to a great, garbage-time offense, will have the coaches pulling their hair out when they watch film on Monday. All systems, except What If Sports and blindly picking the home team, score a victory along with the Saints.
Chicago Bears at Detroit Lions (Actual ~ Chicago, 24-20)
Creative Misfortune's Pick: Chicago, 24-14. The Lions are better than their record. The Bears may actually be, too.
Scottie V's Pick: Detroit, 24-17. Still not buying Chicago.
Vegas Lines Pick: Chicago, 26-20. Chicago by 3.5, Over/Under 44.5.
Accuscore Pick: Chicago, 24-10. Chicago 69% win confidence
What If Sports Pick: Chicago, 13-10. Chicago won 2 of 5 simulations.
Best Record Wins Pick: Chicago, 20-17. Chicago better at 8-3.
Home Team Wins Pick: Detroit, 20-17
A questionable call helps the Bears come from behind to take another victory away from the Lions. Chicago improved to a solid 9-3 and held onto their one game lead in the NFC North. The Bears may not be pretty, and they may not win with style, but they have guaranteed themselves a winning record and have complete control of their own destiny. All systems, except Scottie V and blindly picking the home team get the divisional game picked correctly, with perfect partial picks made by Creative Misfortune, Vegas Lines and the Home Team pick systems.
San Francisco 49ers at Green Bay Packers (Actual ~ Green Bay, 34-16)
Creative Misfortune's Pick: Green Bay, 31-17. The Packers are still smarting from their loss in Atlanta next week and the 49ers, regardless of how good they looked on Monday, are still a 4-7 team.
Scottie V's Pick: Green Bay, 31-14. In spite of San Fran's success last Monday night, the Packers are the anti-Cardinals.
Vegas Lines Pick: Green Bay, 27-16. Green Bay by 10, Over/Under 41.5.
Accuscore Pick: Green Bay, 30-7. Green Bay 81% win confidence
What If Sports Pick: Green Bay, 20-16. Green Bay won 3 of 5 simulations.
Best Record Wins Pick: Green Bay, 20-17. Green Bay better at 7-4.
Home Team Wins Pick: Green Bay, 20-17
The 49ers again prove that dominating teams in the NFC West is not worth a whole lot once you have to venture outside of your division and play a quality opponent. San Francisco kept it close until the Green Bay offense started clicking and Rodgers hit touchdown after touchdown. A powerful run after the catch - one of the most outstanding plays of the season - by Donald Driver sealed the San Francisco's fate. Green Bay keeps pace with the Bears, while the 49ers fall back from Seattle and St. Louis. All systems pick this contest correctly, with only What If Sports getting one team's score perfect.
Jacksonville Jaguars at Tennessee Titans (Actual ~ Jacksonville, 17-6)
Creative Misfortune's Pick: Jacksonville, 20-10. The Titans are done and the Jaguars are the only team in the AFC South not struggling to find itself.
Scottie V's Pick: Jacksonville, 24-20. The Jags roll into Nashville and get a big win over their divisional rival.
Vegas Lines Pick: Tennessee, 24-20. Tennessee by 3.5, Over/Under 43.5.
Accuscore Pick: Tennessee, 23-16. Tennessee 61% win confidence
What If Sports Pick: Tennessee, 31-16. Tennessee won 4 of 5 simulations.
Best Record Wins Pick: Jacksonville, 20-17. Jacksonville better at 6-5.
Home Team Wins Pick: Tennessee, 20-17
Jacksonville takes sole possession of first place in the AFC South by hammering yet another nail in Tennessee's self-destructive coffin. Kerry Collins starts for the Titans, but no real spark is provided to the offense as the Titans extend their touchdown-less quarter streak to 13. Chris Johnson manages just 53 yards on the ground, a mere shell of the 186 Maurice Jones-Drews rushes for as Tennessee drops their fifth straight game. Only Creative Misfortune, Scottie V and the Best Record wins system had faith in the AFC South-leading Jaguars as all other systems fall for the home team.
Denver Broncos at Kansas City Chiefs (Actual ~ Kansas City, 10-6)
Creative Misfortune's Pick: Kansas City, 35-24. The chiefs have to win in order to stay ahead of San Diego. The Broncos, with all their problems, won't be able to stay with them.
Scottie V's Pick: Kansas City, 31-13. The Chiefs avenge their unexpected thrashing in Denver by returning the favor at Arrowhead.
Vegas Lines Pick: Kansas City, 30-20. Kansas City by 9.5, Over/Under 48.5.
Accuscore Pick: Kansas City, 24-13. Kansas City 66% win confidence
What If Sports Pick: Kansas City, 28-13. Kansas City won all 5 simulations.
Best Record Wins Pick: Kansas City, 20-17. Kansas City better at 7-4.
Home Team Wins Pick: Kansas City, 20-17
The Chiefs make the most of San Diego's loss and extend their lead in the division to two full games with a very uninspiring 10-6 victory over the reeling Broncos. Both defenses played stout football throughout most of the game and produced the lowest scoring game of the weekend. All systems had Kansas City winning against their division rival, but no system came close to predicting the total lack of scoring.
Cleveland Browns at Miami Dolphins (Actual ~ Cleveland, 13-10)
Creative Misfortune's Pick: Miami, 21-17. If this game were in Cleveland, Miami would be the run away favorite, but the Dolphins have shown an absurd inability to win at home. They reverse that trend with a nail-biter win in South Florida.
Scottie V's Pick: Cleveland, 21-17. Who thought this would actually be an interesting game 3 months ago?
Vegas Lines Pick: Miami, 24-17. Miami by 4.5, Over/Under 43.
Accuscore Pick: Miami, 24-10. Miami 69% win confidence
What If Sports Pick: Miami, 17-16. Miami won 3 of 5 simulations.
Best Record Wins Pick: Miami, 20-17. Miami better at 6-5.
Home Team Wins Pick: Miami, 20-17
In another defensive battle, Cleveland hits a late field goal to give the Dolphins yet one more loss in south Florida. How can the Dolphins play so stellar on the road and collapse so thoroughly at home? For their part, Cleveland continues to show promise for the future by ruining their draft pick positioning in 2011. Out of all the systems, only Scottie V had Cleveland getting the victory. All the rest of should have known better than to pick the Dolphins to win at home.
Buffalo Bills at Minnesota Vikings (Actual ~ Minnesota, 38-14)
Creative Misfortune's Pick: Buffalo, 24-20. Buffalo has played everybody strong lately and the Vikings are anything but a strong team these days.
Scottie V's Pick: Buffalo, 27-17. The topsy turvy nature of the NFL is on full display in this game... Up is down! Black is white!! Buffalo is good!!! Minnesota is bad!!!!
Vegas Lines Pick: Minnesota, 26-20. Minnesota by 5.5, Over/Under 44.5.
Accuscore Pick: Minnesota, 28-9. Minnesota 77% win confidence
What If Sports Pick: Minnesota, 23-12. Minnesota won all 5 simulations.
Best Record Wins Pick: Minnesota, 20-17. Minnesota better at 4-7.
Home Team Wins Pick: Minnesota, 20-17
So this is what 2010 could have been like, had Coach Childress not sent the Three Musketeers on an ill-advised field trip to Mississippi to bring back Brett Favre for another year? Will Brett even finish the season as he now struggles with bad ankles and a sprained shoulder? Are we looking at the possibility of one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history starting the next few games to extend his streak to 300 games and then taking a seat on the bench after the first series so the Vikings can figure out what options they will have at the quarterback position in 2011? Only Creative Misfortune and Scottie V miss the pick by going with Buffalo, but had they known Favre would be knocked out so early...
Washington Redskins at New York Giants (Actual ~ New York, 31-7)
Creative Misfortune's Pick: New York, 24-17. The Giants' win last week, combined with the Eagles' loss, reminds New York the division is still theirs for the taking if they can just execute.
Scottie V's Pick: New York, 27-13. The Giants need a victory to keep the pace in the NFC East.
Vegas Lines Pick: New York, 27-17. New York by 7, Over/Under 43.5.
Accuscore Pick: New York, 28-7. NY Giants 79% win confidence
What If Sports Pick: New York, 28-13. New York won 4 of 5 simulations.
Best Record Wins Pick: New York, 20-17. New York better at 7-4.
Home Team Wins Pick: New York, 20-17
No real surprises here as the Giants dominate their division rival and keep pace with the Philadelphia Eagles for first place in the NFC East. All systems get the victory, but the Accuscore system was one New York field goal away from its first perfect pick of the season.
Atlanta Falcons at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Actual ~ Atlanta, 28-24)
Creative Misfortune's Pick: Atlanta, 27-14. The best team in the NFC shows no signs of slowing down and Tampa Bay can't beat anybody with a winning record.
Scottie V's Pick: Atlanta, 24-17. Not the "World's Largest Cocktail Party", but this game has big-time implications... Matt Ryan will be the difference.
Vegas Lines Pick: Atlanta, 26-20. Atlanta by 3, Over/Under 44.5.
Accuscore Pick: Atlanta, 21-16. Atlanta 59% win confidence
What If Sports Pick: Atlanta, 24-14. Atlanta won 4 of 5 simulations.
Best Record Wins Pick: Atlanta, 20-17. Atlanta better at 9-2.
Home Team Wins Pick: Tampa Bay, 20-17
Creative Misfortune's #1 ranked team once again stays strong under pressure and comes from behind to defeat their division rival and become the first team in the NFL to hit the 10 win mark. After six straight victories, Atlanta solidifies their case as one of the best teams in the league and the team to beat in the NFC. Tampa Bay showed some spirit before collapsing down the stretch. At 7-5, with no victories against a winning team, Tampa Bay still has a solid shot at a Wild Card spot as only one team remaining on their schedule has a winning record. Only blindly picking the home team proved to be the wrong answer in this contest.
Oakland Raiders at San Diego Chargers (Actual ~ Oakland, 28-13)
Creative Misfortune's Pick: San Diego, 41-17. The Raiders are shell-shocked and facing the Chargers - in December, in San Diego - will not be the cure they are looking for.
Scottie V's Pick: San Diego, 35-21. Who's going to stop the Super-Chargers? Not the Raiders.
Vegas Lines Pick: San Diego, 30-16. San Diego by 13, Over/Under 45.
Accuscore Pick: San Diego, 31-7. San Diego 82% win confidence
What If Sports Pick: San Diego, 26-21. San Diego won 3 of 5 simulations.
Best Record Wins Pick: San Diego, 20-17. San Diego better at 6-5.
Home Team Wins Pick: San Diego, 20-17
In the absolute upset of the weekend, Oakland shocked the Chargers at home. The Chargers fell behind early as another miscue on special teams costs San Diego. The Raiders have now swept the season series with the Chargers and should any possible Wild Card scenarios fall into the AFC West, San Diego has to be a full game better than the Raiders to have a shot at sneaking into the playoffs. No system had the Raiders winning after how pathetic they have looked in recent weeks.
Carolina Panthers at Seattle Seahawks (Actual ~ Seattle, 31-14)
Creative Misfortune's Pick: Seattle, 21-20. Meh.
Scottie V's Pick: Seattle, 27-13. Just what Seattle needs to stay in the hunt in the feeble NFC West, the Carolina Panthers at Qwest Field.
Vegas Lines Pick: Seattle, 24-17. Seattle by 6, Over/Under 40.
Accuscore Pick: Seattle, 21-16. Seattle 60% win confidence
What If Sports Pick: Carolina, 17-7. Carolina won 4 of 5 simulations.
Best Record Wins Pick: Seattle, 20-17. Seattle better at 5-6.
Home Team Wins Pick: Seattle, 20-17
I said, "meh." Only What If Sports misses this laugher of a game as Carolina falls once again.
St. Louis Rams at Arizona Cardinals (Actual ~ St. Louis, 19-6)
Creative Misfortune's Pick: St. Louis, 28-13. The Cardinals are the worst team in the NFC West. When you're the worst of the worst, how can you be expected to win any game?
Scottie V's Pick: St. Louis, 24-14. Don't look now, but the Rams are playing some pretty good football... The Cardinals, not so much.
Vegas Lines Pick: St. Louis, 24-20. St. Louis by 3.5, Over/Under 43.
Accuscore Pick: St. Louis, 21-16. St. Louis 59% win confidence
What If Sports Pick: Arizona, 21-17. Arizona won 3 of 5 simulations.
Best Record Wins Pick: St. Louis, 20-17. St. Louis better at 5-6.
Home Team Wins Pick: Arizona, 20-17
Four field goals will beat two field goals every time. For that matter, one touchdown will also do the trick. St. Louis maintains their share of the NFC West lead by effectively ending Arizona's season that was only on life support because of their division. All systems, except What If Sports and blindling picking the home team, get the pick correct.
Dallas Cowboys at Indianapolis Colts (Actual ~ Dallas, 38-35 (OT))
Creative Misfortune's Pick: Indianapolis, 30-27. The Cowboys make too many mental mistakes to win in Indianapolis, but the Colts are mortal enough these days to allow for a close, entertaining game.
Scottie V's Pick: Indianapolis, 27-23. The Colts get a much-needed victory and the shine starts to wear off in the Jason Garrett era.
Vegas Lines Pick: Indianapolis, 27-21. Indianapolis by 5.5, Over/Under 48.
Accuscore Pick: Indianapolis, 23-16. Indianapolis 61% win confidence
What If Sports Pick: Indianapolis, 24-17. Indianapolis won 4 of 5 simulations.
Best Record Wins Pick: Indianapolis, 20-17. Indianapolis better at 6-5.
Home Team Wins Pick: Indianapolis, 20-17
The passing woes for Manning continue as he throws another pair of Pick-6 touchdowns to the surprisingly effective Cowboys secondary. Despite the 14-points worth of Christmas gifts Dallas received, Manning still rallied the Colts in the final minutes to force overtime. But another deflected interception - Manning's fourth of the day - allowed Dallas to finally put the Colts out of their misery and achieve a surprising upset on the road. No system saw the Cowboys winning.
Pittsburgh Steelers at Baltimore Ravens (Actual ~ Pittsburgh, 13-10)
Creative Misfortune's Pick: Pittsburgh, 19-16. Act I of the AFC's greatest Week 13 matchups. 4 Field goals and a touchdown vs 3 field goals and a touchdown sounds about right to me.
Scottie V's Pick: Pittsburgh, 23-20. The Steelers knock off their hated rival in Baltimore thanks to some timely turnovers.
Vegas Lines Pick: Baltimore, 23-17. Baltimore by 3, Over/Under 40.
Accuscore Pick: Baltimore, 20-17. Baltimore 55% win confidence
What If Sports Pick: Pittsburgh, 30-13. Pittsburgh won 4 of 5 simulations.
Best Record Wins Pick: Baltimore, 20-17. Both teams at 8-3, advantage home.
Home Team Wins Pick: Baltimore, 20-17
A typical, AFC North slugfest between two bitter rivals ends with Pittsburgh winning by a field goal. Both the Ravens and Steelers pounded each other for a solid 60 minutes, with numerous players falling by the wayside, before Pittsburgh turned the Ravens over late and scored the game-winning touchdown. In such a closely contested game, half the systems went with the Ravens, but the happier half chose the Steelers to steal a big win on the road.
Come back tomorrow to view the final prediction standings following the Monday Night Game and the Wild Card playoff results for Creative Misfortune's "If Real Football Used Fantasy Scoring..." season.

Predictions of Creative Misfortune - Week 13
All systems look to continue their accurate ways following Thursday Night's result as the full slate of Week 13 games gets underway on Sunday. Which systems will achieve that magical 70% accuracy mark after starting the weekend a perfect 1 for 1?
Thursday Night Score Prediction:
Sunday Game Score Predictions:
New Orleans Saints at Cincinnati Bengals
Creative Misfortune's Pick: New Orleans, 24-10. The Bengals have nothing to play for and the Saints are finally starting to get back to their championship form.

Creative Misfortune's Pick: Chicago, 24-14. The Lions are better than their record. The Bears may actually be, too.
Scottie V's Pick: Detroit, 24-17. Still not buying Chicago.

San Francisco 49ers at Green Bay Packers
Creative Misfortune's Pick: Green Bay, 31-17. The Packers are still smarting from their loss in Atlanta next week and the 49ers, regardless of how good they looked on Monday, are still a 4-7 team.
Scottie V's Pick: Green Bay, 31-14. In spite of San Fran's success last Monday night, the Packers are the anti-Cardinals.
Vegas Lines Pick: Green Bay, 27-16. Green Bay by 10, Over/Under 41.5.

Home Team Wins Pick: Tennessee, 20-17

Creative Misfortune's Pick: Kansas City, 35-24. The chiefs have to win in order to stay ahead of San Diego. The Broncos, with all their problems, won't be able to stay with them.
Scottie V's Pick: Kansas City, 31-13. The Chiefs avenge their unexpected thrashing in Denver by returning the favor at Arrowhead.

Buffalo Bills at Minnesota Vikings
Creative Misfortune's Pick: Buffalo, 24-20. Buffalo has played everybody strong lately and the Vikings are anything but a strong team these days.
Scottie V's Pick: Buffalo, 27-17. The topsy turvy nature of the NFL is on full display in this game... Up is down! Black is white!! Buffalo is good!!! Minnesota is bad!!!!
Vegas Lines Pick: Minnesota, 26-20. Minnesota by 5.5, Over/Under 44.5.

Best Record Wins Pick: Minnesota, 20-17. Minnesota better at 4-7.
Home Team Wins Pick: Minnesota, 20-17
Washington Redskins at New York Giants
Creative Misfortune's Pick: New York, 24-17. The Giants' win last week, combined with the Eagles' loss, reminds New York the division is still theirs for the taking if they can just execute.
Scottie V's Pick: New York, 27-13. The Giants need a victory to keep the pace in the NFC East.
Vegas Lines Pick: New York, 27-17. New York by 7, Over/Under 43.5.
Accuscore Pick: New York, 28-7. NY Giants 79% win confidence

Home Team Wins Pick: New York, 20-17
Atlanta Falcons at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Home Team Wins Pick: Tampa Bay, 20-17
Oakland Raiders at San Diego Chargers
Creative Misfortune's Pick: San Diego, 41-17. The Raiders are shell-shocked and facing the Chargers - in December, in San Diego - will not be the cure they are looking for.
Scottie V's Pick: San Diego, 35-21. Who's going to stop the Super-Chargers? Not the Raiders.
Vegas Lines Pick: San Diego, 30-16. San Diego by 13, Over/Under 45.
Accuscore Pick: San Diego, 31-7. San Diego 82% win confidence

Home Team Wins Pick: San Diego, 20-17
Carolina Panthers at Seattle Seahawks
St. Louis Rams at Arizona Cardinals
Dallas Cowboys at Indianapolis Colts
Pittsburgh Steelers at Baltimore Ravens
Monday Night Score Prediction:
New York Jets at New England Patriots
Creative Misfortune's Pick: New England, 21-17. Act II of the AFC's greatest Week 13 matchups. The Patriots even the score with the Jets and take control of the division.
Scottie V's Pick: New England, 27-17. The Jets are still not in the same class as a red-hot Patriot team.

Prediction of Creative Misfortune - Week 13 - Thursday Night Game
Week 13 gets under way tonight with a potential shoot-out as the Texans and their suspect D travel to Philadelphia to do battle with the high-flying Eagles who just had their wings clipped by the Chicago Bears. All systems are hoping to get off to a fast start by backing the Eagles, but in the NFL, on a short week, anything can happen.
Thursday Night Score Prediction:
Houston Texans at Philadelphia Eagles

Creative Misfortune Power Rankings - Week 12
The Forked Few~
Abandon hope and fortune all ye who rank here
# 32 - Carolina Panthers (previous: 32)
The Panthers showed a lot of spirit this past week and nearly upset the Cleveland Browns. Maybe the players realized they don't want to see their position drafted #1 overall in the 2011 draft.
# 31 - Cincinnati Bengals (previous: 31)
If there is one thing you can say about Cincinnati's woeful record - it's anything but average. Maybe the T.Ocho Show should do some investigative reporting on why their team is so terrible.
# 30 - Denver Broncos (previous: 25)
Scandals and garbage-time touchdowns won't help McDaniels any. Minnesota and Dallas being 3-1 after coaching changes won't help him, either.
# 29 - Arizona Cardinals (previous: 30)
All laughing aside, the Cardinals are still only two games out of first-place in the NFC West, but if they can't beat the other NFC West teams, how pathetic must they be?
# 28 - Detroit Lions (previous: 29)
Another year, another Turkey Day drubbing. One of these days Detroit won't get crushed at home... or on the road... or when they play another NFL team...
The Creatively Challenged~
Folly remains ever their mistress
# 27 - Buffalo Bills (previous: 28)
Far and away the best of the two-win teams, Buffalo has an excellent opportunity to hit win #3 with a trip to Minnesota this weekend.
# 26 - San Francisco 49ers (previous: 27)
At 4-7, the division is right their for the taking. How sad is that?
# 25 - Seattle Seahawks (previous: 20)
"Hey, Coach Carroll. Watch this. I can play after all. Sincerely, Matt Cassel"
# 24 - Washington Redskins (previous: 16)
No running game, no passing game and a distinct inability to beat the struggling Vikings at home. Nope. Nothing wrong here.
# 23 - Minnesota Vikings (previous: 26)
That's how you win games with Brett Favre these days- turn him into a "Game Manager" and make him run naked bootlegs to the defense's complete dismay.
# 22 - Dallas Cowboys (previous: 21)
C'mon, Roy! Hold onto the football. All you had to do was fall down WITH THE BALL IN YOUR HANDS and Dallas is on a three-game winning streak. I wonder where you will be playing next year?
# 21 - Cleveland Browns (previous: 22)
Scary, scary close win for a Cleveland team that should have dismantled the Panthers before halftime.
The Remarkably Average ~
Dancing the fine line between misfortune and glory
# 20 - Tennessee Titans (previous: 17)
Chris Johnson. 7 carries, 5 yards. 2 catches, 2 yards. That performance alone doomed the playoff hopes of innumerable fantasy teams over the weekend. It didn't do much for the real Titans, either. The 2010 Tennessee Titans. Yep, we could have been something!
# 19 - Oakland Raiders (previous: 18)
I think Pittsburgh might have hurt the Raiders permanent.
# 18 - St. Louis Rams (previous: 24)
Bradford has the Rams looking like the team to beat in the NFC West, which is funny, because most teams outside of the NFL's Western divisions have beaten them.
# 17 - Houston Texans (previous: 23)
How much of an arse must Cortland Finnegan be to get that kind of pugilistic response out of Andre Johnson?
# 16 - Jacksonville Jaguars (previous: 15)
The last-second magic is gone, but with the magic missing in Indy as well, the Jags still have something going for them.
# 15 - Miami Dolphins (previous: 19)
If only all games could be played on the road. Too bad the Dolphins have to return to South Florida, the home of underachieving talent.
# 14 - Indianapolis Colts (previous: 9)
Manning, 4 touchdowns - two to the Colts and two to the Chargers. The Patriots may be Manning's arch-rival, but San Diego is his kryptonite.
# 13 - San Diego Chargers (previous: 14)
December's the perfect month for the Chargers to make their final attack run on the standings... if only December could be extended a few more weeks, they might actually make it to the Super Bowl.
The Fortunate Seven ~
The best of those not yet elite
# 12 - Tampa Bay Buccaneers (previous: 12)
The Bucs haven't beaten a single team above .500 yet this season - but a 10-6 finish with all 10 wins against sub-.500 teams is still quite possible.
# 11 - Kansas City Chiefs (previous: 11)
Two straight division contests will make or break the Chiefs' season.
# 10 - New York Giants (previous: 13)
How much of Jacksonville's last-second magic did the Giants manage to steal last week? Against the Redskins, they shouldn't need to use any of it.
# 9 - Philadelphia Eagles (previous: 6)
Vick is suddenly mortal and Chicago made the Eagles look like chumps, instead of the media-annointed NFC champs they were just a mere two weeks ago.
# 8 - Green Bay Packers (previous: 4)
Ain't no shame losing to the best team in the NFC on the road.
# 7 - Chicago Bears (previous: 10)
Wait a minute. The Bears aren't actually for real, are they?
# 6 - Baltimore Ravens (previous: 8)
The Bucs are a paper powerhouse. The Ravens will have to play far better if they are going to wrest control of the AFC North from Pittsburgh's hands.
The Creative Elite ~
Wielding misfortune at its finest
# 5 - New Orleans Saints (previous: 7)
A strong victory against an inspired Dallas team. If Reggie Bush can stop trying to catch footballs with his helmet, this offense will become even more dynamic.
# 4 - Pittsburgh Steelers (previous: 5)
For the second time this year the Steelers scored 19 points in a victory. I don't know what that means, but it's got to be of some cosmic significance.
# 3 - New England Patriots (previous: 3)
A home date with the Jets in a potential blizzard. A win cements their standing as the number one team in the AFC.
# 2 - New York Jets (previous: 2)
Rex Ryan can laugh and joke all he wants, but deep down he has to be just a little bit scared of what his Jets offense will be able to accomplish on the road in New England after it has struggled a bit of late to outscore less-than-worthy opponents.
# 1 - Atlanta Falcons (previous: 1)
New Orleans is charging at them and Tampa Bay has started to falter, but until the Falcons actually lose a game, they are the best team in the NFC. Their gritty performance against Green Bay proved how truly resilient Matty Ice and his cohorts can be.
Week 12 Power Ranking Awards:
The Free Fallers - Washington Redskins (-8), Indianapolis Colts (-5), Seattle Seahawks (-5) and the Denver Broncos (-5)
The Biggest Movers - Houston Texans (+6) and the St. Louis Rams (+6)
Maintaining The Status Quo - Atlanta Falcons (1), New York Jets (2), New England Patriots (3), Kansas City Chiefs (11), Tampa Bay Buccaneers (12), Cincinnati Bengals (31) and the Carolina Panthers (32)
