Season Recap - 2013 Dallas Cowboys

Dallas Cowboys

Final Record: 8-8
Finished: 2nd Place in the NFC East
2014 Draft Position: 16th

Preseason Ranking: 16

Week 1: Defeated the New York Giants, 36-31
    Ranked - 10
Dallas has never beaten the Giants in their new stadium. They've never forced the Giants to commit 6 turnovers, either. Both those are good signs for the rest of year.

Week 2: Lost at the Kansas City Chiefs, 17-16
    Ranked - 12
Bad turnovers in the second half cost the Cowboys a victory this weekend. The defense is playing solid. The offense has to improve if they hope to be any better than .500 this year.

Week 3: Defeated the St. Louis Rams, 31-7
    Ranked - 8
The best team in the NFC East! That isn't saying much, but the Cowboys have rediscovered their running game and the division looks like theirs to lose.

Week 4: Lost at the San Diego Chargers, 30-21
    Ranked - 12
If you are going to lose, losing on the road to a non-conference opponent is the way to do it. Of course, good teams don't lose on the road to average teams. Still too early to say if Dallas is truly good this year or if they are just getting by in the weakest division in football.

Week 5: Lost to the Denver Broncos, 51-48
    Ranked - 18
So close, but a late, back-breaking turnover once again ruins their chances to do something truly great. Even at 2-3, the Cowboys are still the best team in the NFC East. They have that going for them.

Week 6: Defeated the Washington Redskins, 31-16
    Ranked - 13
The offense seems to have it figured out, but the injuries have devastated the defensive line. Will the no-name Cowboys rise up and make themselves known? First chance comes next weekend when they take on the Eagles and their Blur Offense.

Week 7: Defeated the Philadelphia Eagles, 17-3
    Ranked - 10
A huge division win on the road in Philadelphia makes Dallas the team to beat in the woeful NFC East. If they can hold their own against other NFC opponents, they just might gain enough confidence to actually do something in the playoffs this year.

Week 8: Lost at the Detroit Lions, 31-30
    Ranked - 12
Ugh, Dallas, that was terrible. How can you lose a game like that with just one minute to go when the defense has played so well most of the season? 4-4 translates to 8-8 and missing the playoffs if Dallas can't stop giving games away.

Week 9: Defeated the Minnesota Vikings, 27-23
    Ranked - 11
Still in control of the NFC East, Dallas dodges a bullet and barely escapes with a win over the Vikings.

Week 10: Lost at the New Orleans Saints, 49-17
    Ranked - 12
If Coach Garrett and his staff cannot get this talented, underachieving football team to win the division title this year, of all years, then he should be fired.

Week 11: BYE WEEK
    Ranked - 14
After an up and down season, the Cowboys need to win consistently if they hope to keep pace with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Week 12: Defeated the New York Giants, 24-21
    Ranked - 11
A huge win on the road and a clutch performance by Tony Romo on the final drive of the game. Wins like that can propel a team to greatness.

Week 13: Defeated the Oakland Raiders, 31-24
    Ranked - 11
Dallas teams in recent years would have lost the last two games by failing to make that clutch 4th quarter drive to beat the Giants and by buckling under the Thanksgiving Day expectations when the Raiders jumped out to a 7-0 lead seconds into the game. But this Cowboys team seems to be able to handle adversity, which could bode well for their push to the playoffs.

Week 14: Lost at the Chicago Bears, 45-28
    Ranked - 15
The offense can move the ball, both on the ground and through the air. The defense is just too injury-riddled to stop anybody. Good news for Dallas, they still control their own destiny. Bad news for Dallas, it is December.

Week 15: Lost to the Green Bay Packers, 37-36
    Ranked - 18
Enough cannot be said about the Cowboys collapse to the Packers at home last Sunday. They still control their own destiny in the division, but that's about all they seem to be in control of these days.

Week 16: Defeated the Washington Redskins, 24-23
    Ranked - 15
The playoff picture for the Cowboys is very simple - beat the Eagles to win the NFC East or lose and go home to an offseason full of the same old questions.

Week 17: Lost to the Philadelphia Eagles, 24-22

Final Ranking: 14

Tomorrow, the 2013 Baltimore Ravens...
