Creative Misfortune Power Rankings - Week 6

Creative Misfortune Power Rankings are based on a complicated formula that takes into account, among other things, a team's projected ability to score an Offensive Fumble Recovery TD. All power rankings guaranteed to be less accurate than real NFL team abilities on any given Sunday and are subject to change on a weekly basis. If your team’s ranking remains unchanged for 4 hours or more, please consult with your doctor, as serious side effects may occur.

When it comes to Creative Misfortune Power Rankings, winning isn't the only thing, but it is the most important component of the rating. I don't believe teams can be powerful if they consistently lose, even to other great teams.

The Forked Few ~
Abandon hope and fortune all ye who rank here

     # 32 - Carolina Panthers (previous: 32)
It's difficult to improve over a bye week, but maybe the Panthers found some magic while idle.

     # 31 - Buffalo Bills (previous: 31)
The Bills had a week off to think about how bad they are.

     # 30 - Cleveland Browns (previous: 29)
A vicious loss against a division rival won't help your rankings any.

     # 29 - San Francisco 49ers (previous: 30)
So this is what it feels like to actually win a game. I guess nobody gets fired this week.

     # 28 - Detroit Lions (previous: 27)
Too bad you can't play the Rams at home every week.

The Creatively Challenged ~
     Folly remains ever their mistress

     # 27 - Oakland Raiders (previous: 23)
The 0-5 49ers were just too much for the Raiders. It's never good to be overwhelmed by an underwhelming team.

     # 26 - San Diego Chargers (previous: 24)
The Chargers should be 6-0, not 2-4. Terrible, terrible job of coaching so far this season for a team stacked at all positions.

     # 25 - Dallas Cowboys (previous: 22)
Terrible, terrible coaching by the Dallas staff. How can you allow excessive celebration penalties when your team is below .500? I know, let's celebrate the Cowboys' start by dropping their ranking a few more points.

     # 24 - Denver Broncos (previous: 25)
A tough loss at home to the Jets hurts, but not nearly as much as if the Broncos played in a tougher division.

     # 23 - Cincinnati Bengals (previous: 26)
A bye week without any arrests. Maybe the Bengals have finally started to show signs of discipline.

     # 22 - St. Louis Rams (previous: 28)
Now that's how you rebound from a humiliating road loss.

     # 21 - Minnesota Vikings (previous: 21)
Special teams and defense once again get the Vikings the win. Favre is just going through the motions and Moss so far has had very little impact.

The Remarkably Average ~
Dancing the fine line between misfortune and glory

     # 20 - Jacksonville Jaguars (previous: 17)
A horrible home loss to a division rival on Monday night before a near partial-capacity crowd. The Jaguars fall out of a tie for first in the AFC South and clearly look to be the worst team in the division.

     # 19 - Arizona Cardinals (previous: 18)
The bye week should only help Max Hall gain more confidence before his next start.

     # 18 - Tampa bay Buccaneers (previous: 12)
The Saints demonstrated just how much farther this young team has to go before they are done rebuilding.

     # 17 - Miami Dolphins (previous: 20)
Even if it takes five quarters, it's always difficult to defeat the Packers at Lambeau.

     # 16 - Seattle Seahawks (previous: 19)
It's always nice to come out of the bye week with a road win against a team with a better record.

     # 15 - Washington Redskins (previous: 14)
The Redskins lose ground just a bit, but show they will be in every game they play after staying strong against the Indianapolis Colts for four quarters.

     # 14 - Kansas City Chiefs (previous: 11)
The last of the unbeatens now has a two-game losing streak.

     # 13 - Green Bay Packers (previous: 15)
A tough overtime loss at home sends this preseason Super Bowl favorite falling to a .500 record. Injuries continue to take their toll.

The Fortunate Seven ~
The best of those not yet elite

     # 12 - Chicago Bears (previous: 5)
The Bears may have the best record in the NFC North, but they are far from claiming the division crown for themselves after dropping two of their last three.

     # 11 - Houston Texans (previous: 16)
The Texans rally for a win and may just have saved their season.

     # 10 - New York Giants (previous: 13)
Another solid win elevates the Giants, down and out a few weeks ago, back into the class of the NFC.

       # 9 - New Orleans Saints (previous: 10)
A road win in a division game is always good, but the Saints will have to defeat a stronger opponent on the road before I am ready to say they are back to their championship form.

       # 8 - Tennessee Titans (previous: 9)
Fantasy teams everywhere rejoiced (or were annoyed) by the decision to keep running Chris Johnson until he broke the 100-yard mark.

       # 7 - Atlanta Falcons (previous: 3)
What happened to one of the best defenses? The Eagles ate the Dirty Birds for breakfast.

       # 6 - Philadelphia Eagles (previous: 8)
The high-flying Eagles overwhelm the Falcons en route to one of the best records in the NFC.

The Creative Elite ~
       Wielding misfortune at its finest

       # 5 - Indianapolis Colts (previous: 7)
A balanced attack that results in three touchdown passes for Manning spells certain doom for defenses.

       # 4 - Pittsburgh Steelers (previous: 6)
Big Ben is back and the Steelers win again.

       # 3 - Baltimore Ravens (previous: 2)
Barely losing to New England on the road barely hurts the potential of the Ravens.

       # 2 - New England Patriots (previous: 4)
Great teams find a way to win, even when down and out with little time left on the clock.

       # 1 - New York Jets (previous: 1)
A tough road victory keeps the Jets at the top of the power rankings for at least one more week.

Week 6 Power Ranking Awards:

The Free Fallers - Chicago Bears (-7), Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-6), Oakland Raiders (-4) and the Atlanta Falcons (-4)

The Biggest Movers - St. Louis Rams (+6) and the Houston texans (+5)
Maintaining The Status Quo - New York Jets (1), Minnesota Vikings (21), Buffalo Bills (31) and the Carolina Panthers (32)
