This Day in Football History - October 14th

*October 14, 1962 - The Dallas Cowboys make history in a game against the Philadelphia Eagles by becoming the first team to score two touchdowns of 100 yards or more in the same game. Mike Gaechter returned an interception 100 yards and Amos Marsh returned a kickoff for 101 yards.


*October 14, 1990 - Houston Oilers quarterback Warren Moon passes for 369 yards and a career-best five touchdowns in a 48-17 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals. During the game Moon becomes the first player in pro football history to throw for over 20,000 yards in two different leagues (he threw for 21,228 while playing in the Canadian Football League prior to coming to the NFL).


*October 14, 2007 - Kansas City Chiefs tight end Tony Gonzalez sets a new NFL record for touchdown receptions by a tight end when he scores his 63rd career touchdown in a game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Gonzalez also caught his 64th touchdown pass beforethe game ends. The previous record of 62 touchdown receptions by a tight end was set by Shannon Sharpe of the Denver Broncos in 2003.

That same day, Green Bay Packers Quarterback Brett Favre is intercepted for the 278th time in his career in a game against the Washington Redskins. The interception breaks the previous career mark set of 277 interceptions held by George Blanda of the Oakland Raiders.
