“If Real Football Used Fantasy Scoring…” Feature Update

Three weeks into the NFL season, projecting starting fantasy lineups for each and every team on Fridays has proven to be quite a time-consuming endeavor and takes away from other features of this blog I would like to explore in the future (such as articles like The Curious Matter of Packer Penalties posted last night).

The “If Real Football Used Fantasy Scoring…” feature will continue with individual game results and updated standings posted on Tuesdays, however I will no longer post projected starting lineups on Fridays. This was a hit-or-miss effort to begin with and took too much valuable time better used elsewhere.

Beginning this week I will let NFL coaches decide their starting fantasy lineups by how they use actual players during their games. Fantasy lineups will be set based on the players that made the most pass attempts, carried the ball the most or caught the most passes, regardless of how many yards they gained or touchdowns they scored.

For each position, the starting players will be selected based on the following criteria –
The starting fantasy Quarterback will be the player who attempts the most passes. In case two players have the same number of attempts, the player with the most passing yards (not touchdowns) will be considered the fantasy starter.
The two starting fantasy Running Backs will be the players who carry the ball most. Receptions will not factor into determining whether or not a RB was “started”. In case two players have the same number of carries, the player with the most yards (not touchdowns) will be considered the fantasy starter.
The three starting fantasy Wide Receivers and starting Tight End will be the players at each respective position who caught the most passes. In case of ties, the player with the most yards (not touchdowns) will be considered the fantasy starter.
Kickers and Defenses should remain the same as before.
Using the above method on last week’s games, the overall fantasy scores changed slightly, but not significantly enough to change the results of the fantasy matchups. When the final fantasy results are posted on Tuesdays, players will still be listed along with their fantasy scores.

Check back later this evening for week 4 Creative Misfortune score predictions...
