Week 1 - Roundup of Creative Misfortune - Monday Night Games

Monday Night Game Results:

Baltimore Ravens at New York Jets (Actual ~ Baltimore, 10-9)
Creative Misfortune's Pick: New York, 20-16Jets win at home in a defensive struggle with their running game and a few key Sanchez completions late in the game.
Scottie V's Pick: New York, 28-24. Darrelle Revis earns his keep and Mark Sanchez plays error-free ball.
Vegas Lines Pick: New York, 20-17. New York by 2.5, Over/Under 36.
Accuscore Pick: New York, 14-13. Game split 50%-50%. Home team given the 1 point edge.
What If Sports Pick: Baltimore, 20-14Baltimore won 2 of 5 close simulations, but dominated those games.
Best Record Wins Pick: New York, 20-17. Both records at 0-0, advantage home.
Home Team Wins Pick: New York, 20-17

In another football game delayed by a lightning storm, the Ravens remind us why birds can be mightier than J-E-T-S! JETS! JETS! JETS! Both defenses play lights out. Baltimore goes old school in this win making heavy hits and crushing tackles while the Jets offense reached a new level of futility. Only managing 6 first downs, the Jets netted 60 passing yards while getting dinged for 125 yards worth of penalties. This game proved a colossal disappointment for all high-flying, Super Bowl-bound Jets fans. New England comes to town next week and though their defense is not as vicious as Baltimore's, Brady leads an offense with far more firepower than the Ravens can muster. If the Jets can't win a battle of field goals, how can they expect to win a shoot-out?

San Diego Chargers at Kansas City Chiefs (Actual ~ Kansas City, 21-14)
Creative Misfortune's Pick: San Diego, 28-17Chargers hit the ground running and steamroll KC.
Scottie V's Pick: Kansas City, 27-24. In front of a rockin' Arrowhead crowd, Ryan Succop kicks the game-winner.
Vegas Lines Pick: San Diego, 26-21. San Diego by 4.5, Over/Under 45.
Accuscore Pick: San Diego, 24-14. San Diego 64% win confidence
What If Sports Pick: San Diego, 27-24. San Diego won 3 of 5 simulations.
Best Record Wins Pick: Kansas City, 20-17. Both records at 0-0, advantage home.
Home Team Wins Pick: Kansas City, 20-17

Seriously, San Diego? You're supposed to be good. Supposed to be one of the Creative Elite and an AFC Super Bowl favorite. What's the matter? Can't you catch a couple of rookies shuckin' and jivin' as they scamper from one end of the field to the other? Down 21-7 at halftime, San Diego rallied once the rain stopped coming down and made it interesting in the fourth quarter, but the vaunted Chiefs defense kept the Chargers from tying with a brilliant goal line stand in the final seconds to put an exclamation point on the evening.

Final Week 1 Prediction Standings...
Best Record Wins Pick: 12-4 (season overall: 12-4)
Home Team Wins Pick: 12-4 (season overall: 12-4)
     Scottie V's: 11-5 (season overall: 11-5)
Vegas Picks: 11-5 (season overall: 11-5)
     Accuscore: 11-5(season overall: 11-5)
Creative Misfortune: 8-8 (season overall: 8-8)
What If Sports: 8-8 (season overall: 8-8)

Wow. Who would have thought just blindly picking the home team would be the correct answer? The blind pick systems beat all other systems to take an early season lead in the standings with the What If Sports quick sim predictions and that lovable, hapless predicter, Creative Misfortune, limping in at just 50% accuracy for the week. But I used my lucky coin and everything!
